last, final, additional wikis

With the inceasing anxiety of senior course requirements i revisted my wiki articles contributing a last touch-up for the semester.
After reading an archive Guitar World interview i added some Vito Bratta solo philosophy, and style comparisons.
Jim Macpherson's album credits were expanded as well as his latest tour information and related band departures.
Steven Drozd's wiki received an updated influence/style section - upon a rediscovered album review/interview. - as well as a general re-formating

wiki- Vito Bratta comment

Vito Bratta is mostly an unsung and underappreciated guitarist. Despite my difficulty with username recognition, whether it was signing in(which i doubt) or some other classification misfortune, i am proud but not finished with my contribution. Although when i first saw his wiki it was merely a list of 5 topics spoken about in an interview and a snippet about a produced record -i then had the opportunity to add at length his expansive equipment preferences, musical approach, and influences. All that i have added still leaves me with the feeling more needs to be written. I did not exprience any negative edits, or did i witness any substantial additions. I hope with more research and a better sense of the picture adding process i can include some candid photographs of a musical missing legend.

I noticed some of my additions were classified under 68.46.105.54 among other sets of numbers including the word Talk - this may be related to reference issue that was posted throughout the semester. I apologize for the confusion, and i assure my compliance to course requirement.

please read and add to the wiki article @

wiki - Dave Tough comment

Dave Tough barely had a wiki, which is why i wanted to contribute. If you have read any of my previous posts about him or his wiki, you can see the respect, value and meathook heartbreak myself and many others have for this thin kid out of Chicago. I noticed once i started to add a bit with maybe too much subjectivity, others joined in not editing me back but instead adding in their own insight, discography and liner note nuance. At one point a user wanted to join this wiki with a music based wiki edition and I did not object - i just wanted to appropriately add some much needed flesh to a great talent's electronic history. - and i think because of this class i did.

wiki- Steven Drozd comment

I have always been a big Drozd fan, because of his infamous and identifiable drum work. I was intially concerned with my selection, considering the Flaming Lips rising popularity, but was surprised by the low level vital stat birthday, birthplace approach to his wiki. After adding some specific info as to his training, and background a fellow wiki user added a picture block with a strip of headlines, which in combination with my text-only equipment and project mentionings, fleshed out the wiki's appearance. I hope with our large addition to the article, the page will continue to grow. I had a difficult time adding pictures due to the wiki copyright steps, and hope others can add some lifeblood to the page of an admirable and innovative musician.

wiki- Jim Macpherson comment

I selected JM mostly because, aside from his birthday and a few band affliations, there was not much of a wiki article for him. A reason for this could be his lack of mainstream popularity and subsquent lack of information about him. Through a lot of interview and note reading i was able to amass a collection of facts and accounts of his style and background. Since it was and is a low traffic article, i did not experience much content editing from other users. In looking back, and once being someone who first discovered wikipedia and spent hours jumping from topic to topic, i am proud to have assembled a little something for anyone who, like me, is impressed or interested by the creativity and perserverance of a talented, and underappreciated drummer.

Los Dinos Knows-Throwing Good cars after Good? teamate blog comment

A classmate's blog has recently mentioned Yahoo's Green Challenge. Yahoo hopes to increase ecological awarness by noting the greenest city in the country. The winning city in turn will receive 10 hybrid cars to decrease CO2 emissions. Although the publicity could make an impact, don't you think the worst city in the country should get the hybrids?
Somehow i think L.A. may need the help
------------------------ although maybe more cars isn't the answer.

Adsense

i forgot to mention the ease of adding Adsense a few days ago. After completing the process prompted through the Google Search page, i noticed through a team members experience that blogger has an Adsense option as part of its layout feature. I accessed Adsense through both and now have an alternating Adsense content Ad and a search bar Ad. This was a little unexpected but i like the variation it presents.

Jim Macpherson, Dave Tough and Vito Bratta wiki edits

I focused on the project changes in both musicians' careers. Tough's mostly being overseas, as Macpherson remains intermittent as a floating featured drummer. Additional background information and interesting facts were noted towards the botttom of each wiki.
see them both here

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jim_Macpherson

Also i have noticed i received a tab to join my Vito Bratta page to a
Wikipedia Guitarist project. From this i tried to reorganize the format and wiki classification of its presentation.

Recently the redesign of the page has seemed to alter the usernames of the all the contributors- obscuring the record of my additions. Has anyone else experienced similar problems?

Flickr's call to arms

Recently and related to our class discussions concerning YouTube/Google, rights laws and corporate responsibility, Flickr has been prompted by industry professionals to combat the reproduction and sale of copycat trademarked art through on-line retailers. Flickr has yet to repsond with an official reaction. I would predict more and more content consumers and producers may look to internet networks like myspace, or YouLoot to help police content/copyright improprieties.

Wiki_additions to Vito Bratta-Jim Macpherson

I have added some additional background on JimM. as well as some equipment preferences of the legendary Vito. If anyone is interested in Vito's 20 year absence from the music scene, a candid interview was conducted by Eddie Trunk on Feb. 16, which sheds light on his disappearance, the rumors, the myths and the surprsing facts of where the talent went and why.

both wikipedia articles can be found at

also the Bratta interview can be found exclusively at Eddie Trunk's radio webpage.

!!!-the peasants revolt-National No Gas Day-

i have been receiving a lot of e-mails about a national gas boycott on the 15th of May. I was wondering if anyone else has gotten hip to the latest digitized uprising of the masses? -and if they think one day of bicycle littered streets and tumbleweeds blowing through the Wawa pumps will actually make an impact?

if it does make the news, or a difference it will be amazing to think what else you could organize through mass emailing.

graduation for all i say - we're taking the Tub

WIN DVD responds to AACS HD code break

During class, the implications of open source and copyright law have been talk about. Although breaking codes and publicly displaying them isn't really open source, the AACS HD access code has already reached millions. The recent development has allowed HD and Blu-ray format video to be posted without fee on the internet. Microsoft has responded with a mandatory update(nullifying the key's ablilty) for its Windows video viewers. Not complying with the update will negatively effect future use of windows players.

wikipedia edit - all the cool kids are doing it

Wikipedia edit for Steven Drozd. Alongside with Jon Stewart, and Steve Burns , Drozd appeared earlier this year on Nickelodeon Networks_Noggin's -Jack’s Big Music Show.I have also commented briefly on a few other extra-curricular activities outside of his recent tour with the flaming lips

Myspace going You Loot

The current trend in online sites and services seems to be a growing emphasis and reliance on consumer to consumer communication. As DealCatcher.com spoke of YouLoot (a hands-on consumer driven product ranking/review site), MySpace has also empowered its users with a similar consumer driven page/video/audio ranking service. The user based feature should better direct Myspace's growing popularity and size.

Dealcatcher - employees drunk with savings

I spoke briefly to Dan Baxter, founder of dealcatcher.com, after the class presentation on the 13th. I had wondered if the constant involvement of finding great deals ever got the better of his 9 employees. As I suspected, and I too would be guilty, Dan laughed he often couldn't resist getting in on the savings. The steady staff penchant for low priced Wii games and DVDs often has the Dealcatcher.com employees saving away their salary.

stiuqlexa entry

The class has blogged the unique word stiuqlexa. Considering all the talk of search ranking and google juice, the implications of such things in the business world can significantly effect web traffic. This exercise displays the internet in a functional setting. Here, web operation is manipulated as the irrelevant class word - stiuqlexa - is linked to an unrelated site that in turn creates an irrevelant but Google recognized association.

technorcrati, wikipedia, class material and the law = amazing

I checked out my technocrati blog search on Steven Drozd, and found a long and fairly uninteresting Flaming Lips concert review post on what appeared to be a myspace blog account. As i scrolled through the paragraphs, i saw the infamous video screen with a play button in the center...-A YouTube video, of a concert, of coyprighted music, shown for free, in a post on a myspace blog, found with my technocrati search blog--- truly unremarkable i know, but still it raises the branching Viacom/Google question and the impending force of its implications for even the smallest of internet spaces.

Wikipedia: Dave Tough_someone out there is talking to me

My wiki article on Dave Tough has been receiving numerous attached notes- asking to be "redirected?" to another article on Dave Tough. This obviously noteworthy other article has two lines on it, both of which are on the edit i have contributed to. I just found it odd, and wasn't sure how to communicate with the other wiki writer, and wondered if anyone else had experienced something similar.
I'm just happy he didn't erase it - i read in some classmate blogs that a few found out rather abruptly their edit or in some cases whole articles, were entirely edited out of the wikiworld.
-that's a tough break, hearts are breaking all across campus i'm sure

Also i have been having trouble getting a picture on the DTough edit, so i thought i would at least show it here. It like a sad little slice of electronic Grauman's Chinese Theatre - without the hands, or popularity.

Class Material: more with Marketing Research

Since before spring break everyone is surely thinking of next year's classes -
If anyone took a particular interest in Marketing Research after studying for our mid-term - I thought I would recommend a course I had a few semesters ago.
Professor Andrews teaches a pretty indepth but very accessible course in Marketing Research.
He provides a course that clearly defines the spectrum of MR possibilites, while through some limited case work helps to recognize the benefits, difficulties and underlying characteristics of numerous methods. I learned quite a bit, enjoyed the course and despite attendance being optional, he happens to be a fairly nice, and often funny guy - in a dry louisana kind of way.

groupmate blog comment: celebrity news_ 1and1/3 of Van Halen at RRHF induction

Since a groupmate had an interest in celebrity gossip - I wasn't sure if her or anyone in class saw the rock and roll hall of fame.
Van halen was inducted (among many others), but was only represented by Michael Anthony and Sammy Hagar. Not only was the classic DLR m.i.a. but both brothers were absent due to family difficulties. These private difficulties were then made awlfully public by Sammy tastelessly repeating how Eddie was in rehab. -continuing to say how Eddie would come out the otherside a better person, and how he would have finally have his buddy back - in the usual
self-righteous Sammy Hagar tone.
the ceremony trudged on as an unenthusiastic introduction and a short (luckily mostly Neil Zlozower) photo montage of Van Halen aired followed by a lackluster velvet revolver tribute.
the whole thing was such a shame

the not so secret ingredients

Recently, with the bigger buzz of open-source and intellectual property laws, much of corporate marketing seems to be playing defense. As consumers and the like increase their bargaining power, many firms have continued to restrict access to protect their marketshare. This link
http://www.collaboratemarketing.com/modernmarketing/2007/02/free_beer_open_.html
provides an article highlighting two beverage companies that reveal all their secret ingredients as well as some production methods. It will be interesting to see what reaction the consumer marketplace takes to the all-access beverages, and how competitors will react structurally and/or promotionally.

wikipedia: Drozd edit/addition

I've added some info on his prefered equipment, the current touring drummer and some background on his early experiences in a musical family.

spacey technology from slashdot

NASA has plans to develop an InterPlaNET to link real-time Mars Discovery information back to earth at NASA- currently NASA's definition of "real-time" includes a 20 minute delay. It will be pretty remarkable to witness NASA's innovations in space time transmissions.

Also the Spitzer Space Telescope has recently acquired the capacity to look at planets outside our solar system (exoplanets) - and with that will be able to identify "signatures" of life on the distant surfaces.

After checking out some of John Batelle's listings - I found an article that discussed a bit of our ad/click fraud class material in much greater detail.
It explained some statistic generalizations and helped to clarify a topic of many definitions and concerns.

Wikipedia edit/entry

Wiki article:Dave Tough.
I've added some background info on the importance of Chicago in his career.
-As well as some notes on his time spent in Europe.

Dave Tough is a pretty incredible story of a sad talented man that seemed to go through life never really sure if it was his.
anyone who has an interest in late 1920's to middle Depression era american history will get a interesting glimpse into the gritty matter of this working musician.
